What is Letter Trail?
Letter Trail is a timed daily word hunt played on a 4×4 grid. Build words by moving from one tile to a touching tile. Horizontal, vertical, and diagonal moves all count, giving you many possible paths through the same sixteen letters.
The board rewards both vocabulary and visual scanning. Short words build points quickly, while longer words can be worth more and are often hidden along less obvious routes.
How to play Letter Trail
- Start on any letter tile.
- Move to a touching tile horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
- Keep tracing until you have formed a valid English word of at least three letters.
- A tile cannot be reused within the same word.
- Submit as many valid words as possible before the 2:30 timer expires.
C → A → T
If C, A, and T touch in sequence, you can trace CAT and submit it. From there, you might spot a longer route using nearby letters. Every board has many possible paths, so rotating your attention around the grid matters.
Letter Trail strategy
Start by sweeping for obvious three- and four-letter words so the early seconds are productive. Then look for common endings such as -ING, -ED, -ER, and -S, as well as prefixes that can extend a word you already found.
When you stall, stop staring at the same corner. Shift to a different starting tile or mentally rotate the board. A new visual angle often reveals paths that were invisible a few seconds earlier.
What happens when time runs out?
Your round ends when the timer reaches zero. Clue Morning records the words you found and can show the longest possible word for the board when appropriate, giving you something concrete to compare against after the hunt.
A new letter board every morning
Letter Trail is part of Clue Morning’s seven-game daily set. Everyone receives the same grid for the day, so the challenge is consistent across players even though each person may discover a completely different collection of words.
